Description John C. Martin, age 58, was appointed as Chairman of our Board in May 2008 and has served as our Chief Executive Officer and a member of our Board since April 1996. Prior to joining us in 1990, Dr. Martin held several leadership positions in the antiviral chemistry division at Bristol-Myers Squibb Company and Syntex Corporation. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of the California Healthcare Institute and is a director of Gen-Prob Incorporated. Dr. Martin also serves on the external scientific advisory board of the University of California School of Global Health. From 2006 to 2009, he was a member of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS. He served as President of the International Society for Antiviral Research from 1998 to 2008.
